Birth of Souls: Malchus as the Gateway to Creation
🧾 Overview:
This passage reveals that the true emergence of “yesh”—a separate, created existence—begins from Malchus of Atzilut, which becomes the source of Beriah. As the sages say, “There is no king without a people,” indicating that Malchus enables multiplicity and individuation. The vast diversity of created beings stems from the multitude of Divine letters that emerge from Malchus, referred to as “the mouth of God,” through the five articulations of speech rooted in the gevurot of Nukva.
Malchus is called “Alma d’Itgalya”—the revealed world—because it is here that the power of Ein Sof is revealed to create yesh me’ayin (something from nothing), unlike the nine higher sefirot which operate through cause and effect. Malchus contains the final aspect of Ein Sof and is thus called “Keter Malchus”—the crown of kingship.
The creation of souls is described as a birth process, originating in Malchus and unfolding through spiritual gestation in the womb of Imma Ila’ah (the supernal mother), nourished by lights from Abba and Imma, Arich Anpin, and Atik Yomin. This gestation spans seven or nine months, corresponding to the spiritual cycles from Shemini Atzeret to Pesach. Ultimately, the souls, angels, and palaces of Beriah are born—revealing the light of Ein Sof through the process of pregnancy and birth.
👑 Malchus as the Root of Creation
The true emergence of “yesh” (independent existence) begins from Malchus of Atzilut, which becomes Atik of Beriah. This transition enables the creation of multiplicity and separation, as expressed in the phrase “Ein melech b’lo am” (“There is no king without a people”).
🔠 Creation Through Divine Speech
The vast diversity of created beings stems from the multitude of letters that emerge from Malchus—called “the mouth of God.” These letters are formed through the five articulations of speech, rooted in the five gevurot of Nukva, and serve as the mechanism for yesh me’ayin creation.
🌍 Malchus as “Alma d’Itgalya”
Malchus is called the Revealed World because it is the point where the Infinite Light (Ein Sof) becomes manifest in creation—not through cause and effect, but through direct revelation. In contrast, the first nine sefirot operate through hishtalshelut (chain-like descent).
👑 Keter and Malchus: Beginning and End
The concept “Na’utz techilatan b’sofan” (“Their beginning is rooted in their end”) teaches that Keter serves as the intermediary between the Infinite and creation. Malchus contains the final aspect of Ein Sof, and is therefore called Keter Malchus—the crown from below upward.
👶 Birth of Souls from Malchus
The creation of souls is described as a birth process from Malchus into Beriah. This is likened to Kriyat Yam Suf, which depends on Atik. The gestation of souls spans seven or nine months, corresponding to spiritual cycles from Shemini Atzeret to Pesach, and occurs within the womb of Imma Ila’ah.
🌌 Divine Lights in Gestation
During this gestation, the souls are nourished by higher lights from Abba and Imma, Arich Anpin, and Atik Yomin—all the way up to Ein Sof. These lights remain concealed in mochin (intellect) until the birth of souls, angels, and palaces into the world of Beriah.
✨ Creation as Revelation of Ein Sof
Ultimately, the process of pregnancy and birth is a revelation of the Infinite Light itself, channeled through Malchus and the supernal womb, giving rise to distinct beings in the created worlds.
🪙 Short Takeaway:
Creation begins in Malchus, where Divine light becomes revealed and individualized. The birth of souls is a spiritual unfolding—from hidden light to revealed existence—channeling the Infinite into the finite.
